Pot lids are the sneakiest space thieves in a small kitchen, sliding around cabinets and crashing every time you open the door. This freestanding lid caddy sorts them upright in seconds. It needs no drilling, no adhesive, and no tools, so your deposit stays completely safe.
What You'll Need
- Freestanding step-style or vertical lid organizer (about $10-15): a wire or bamboo rack that sits on the shelf or counter.
- Non-slip rubber shelf liner (about $5): the unglued, roll-out kind that simply lays flat.
- Soft microfiber cloth (about $2): for wiping the shelf before you set up.
- Optional silicone lid holders or a small basket (about $6): for odd-sized lids that won't fit the rack.
How to Do It
- Empty the cabinet or shelf where your pots live and wipe it down with the cloth. Nothing is attached, so nothing needs prep beyond a clean surface.
- Sort your lids by size and toss any that have lost their matching pot. Fewer lids means more room.
- Lay the non-slip liner flat on the shelf. It is not glued, so it lifts right out at move-out with zero residue.
- Place the lid caddy on top of the liner, pushed toward the back or side so the door still closes smoothly.
- Slot the lids in upright from largest to smallest, so you can grab the one you need without moving the others.
- Stack your pots nearby or nest them in front, and use the basket for any oddball lids.
- Lift everything out when you move. The rack folds or carries off, and the shelf is exactly as you found it.
DESIGNER TIP
Measure your shelf height before buying so the caddy clears the pots stacked above it. If space is tight, choose a slim vertical rack and store it on its side.
