The Fridge Side Hack That Adds a Whole Pantry
Your fridge's bare side panel is prime real estate, and it's been sitting there empty this whole time.

Apartment Win
Tiny kitchen, zero cabinet space? Your fridge's side panel can hold spices, foil, towels, and utensils with strong magnetic bins and rails. Everything lifts right off, so nothing touches your walls or risks your deposit.
What You'll Need
- 2-3 magnetic storage bins or baskets with strong built-in magnets (about $8-$15 each)
- 1 magnetic rail or bar for utensils or knives (about $10)
- 1 magnetic paper towel holder (about $8)
- A few magnetic hooks for oven mitts and bags (about $6 for a pack)
- Soft microfiber cloth and all-purpose cleaner (already on hand)
How to Do It
- Check that your fridge side is magnetic by sticking a spare magnet on it. Stainless finishes are sometimes not magnetic, so test first.
- Wipe the side panel with cleaner and a microfiber cloth so magnets sit flat and don't slide.
- Plan your layout by holding items up before placing them. Put heavy bins at chest height and light hooks higher.
- Attach the paper towel holder and magnetic rail first, then add bins below them. Nothing here uses adhesive, so it leaves no residue.
- Load each bin lightly with spices, foil, or snacks. Stay within the weight limit on the packaging so nothing slips.
- Remove everything at move-out by simply lifting the magnets off. Wipe the panel once and it's back to normal.
DESIGNER TIP
Stick felt or thin rubber dots on the back edges of your bins to stop scratches on the fridge finish and add extra grip. Keep all your bins in one color family so the whole side looks designed, not cluttered.
