Apartment Win
Scuffed floors are one of the sneakiest ways to lose part of your deposit, and every chair scoot adds up. This felt-and-slider trick protects hardwood, laminate, and vinyl while making heavy furniture glide effortlessly. It's fully renter-safe because everything peels off or lifts away with zero residue and zero tools.
What You'll Need
- Self-stick felt pads in assorted sizes (about $6): for chairs, small tables, and lightweight pieces.
- Reusable furniture sliders with soft-glide bottoms (about $10): for sofas, dressers, and bookcases.
- Rubber-edged, non-adhesive furniture cups (about $8): for heavy legs that stay put.
- Microfiber cloth and a little rubbing alcohol (about $3): to clean surfaces so pads grip well.
- Soft tape measure or phone ruler (free): to size pads to each leg.
How to Do It
- Flip each lightweight chair or table upside down on a towel so you can reach the feet.
- Clean each foot with the cloth and a dab of alcohol, then let it dry for a minute so pads stick well.
- Press a felt pad onto each foot and hold for 30 seconds. The pads peel off later and the furniture itself keeps no residue.
- Place non-adhesive rubber cups under heavy legs, like bed frames and bookcases. They simply lift away at move-out.
- Slide reusable sliders under sofas or dressers by tilting one side up slightly, then lowering it gently.
- Test by nudging each piece. Reposition or swap pad sizes anywhere it wobbles or drags.
- Check pads every few months and replace worn ones, since grit trapped in old felt can scratch floors.
DESIGNER TIP
Use thick felt pads in a color close to your furniture legs so they disappear visually. Wipe the pad surface now and then to keep grit from turning protection into sandpaper.
