Cozy Fix
Bulky bedside lamps eat up precious nightstand space, and overhead rental lighting is rarely flattering. A plug-in sconce hung on a removable adhesive hook gives you soft wall-light style, and it's renter-safe because it uses no drilling, no wiring, and everything peels off clean at move-out.
What You'll Need
- Plug-in wall sconce with a lightweight body (about $25-40): choose one with a standard plug and an on/off switch on the cord or fixture.
- Heavy-duty removable adhesive hooks rated for the sconce's weight (about $8): look for the removable, damage-free label.
- Removable adhesive cord clips or a peel-off cord cover (about $7): to guide the cord neatly down to the outlet.
- Rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth (about $2): for prepping the wall surface.
- Warm-white LED bulb, 2700K (about $4): for that cozy hotel glow.
How to Do It
- Choose your spot beside the bed or reading chair, about 12-18 inches above where your shoulder sits, within reach of an outlet.
- Wipe the wall area with a cloth and rubbing alcohol, then let it dry fully so the adhesive grips well.
- Check the weight limit on your hook package against your sconce, and size up if you're close. Nothing here touches the wall beyond removable adhesive.
- Press the hook firmly to the wall for 30 seconds, then wait an hour before hanging anything, per the package directions.
- Hang the sconce on the hook and screw in your warm LED bulb. Keep the shade clear of fabric and bedding.
- Guide the cord down with removable cord clips or a peel-off cover, running it straight to the outlet. Both lift off without residue when you move.
- Remove at move-out by stretching the hook's adhesive tab slowly downward, parallel to the wall, until it releases clean.
DESIGNER TIP
Pair your sconce with a smart plug or an inline dimmer switch so you can set the mood from bed and the light becomes a flexible reading, relaxing, or night-light option.
