You Need to Share the Vision for This Tennessee Bunker

On 20 private acres in Newport, Tennessee, someone built a custom off-grid compound with glass brick, driftwood, solar power, a Generac backup generator, three spring-fed ponds, a chicken coop, rooftop views, and an esoteric interior that Reddit has described as warehouse construction with prepper vibes. Listed at $945,000. The listing says you need to share the vision. Reddit says the title got cut off — it's a vision problem.

The Vision, as Best We Can Reconstruct It

The home is custom-built and entirely off-grid capable — solar powered with a Generac backup, private well, and septic system. Inside, 4,737 square feet of open floor plan across two bedrooms, two full baths, and two half baths includes a central open kitchen designed for entertaining, two bonus rooms suitable for an office, gym, or guest space, and rooftop access with sweeping views across the property. The aesthetic choices — glass brick, extensive driftwood, cinder block construction — reflect a builder who had a clear and committed vision for what this place should be. Whether that vision translates is, as one commenter put it, a separate question. The lack of conventional windows drew particular concern, with Reddit noting that the resulting atmosphere trends significantly toward depressing. The glass brick is, however, genuinely cool. Reddit conceded this.

Twenty Acres, Three Ponds, and Some Code Questions

The land itself is the more straightforward part of this offering. Twenty acres of serene, private Tennessee hillside with three spring-fed ponds, a chicken coop, and room for hobby farming, homesteading, or simply disappearing from the world entirely. The rooftop delivers genuine views across all of it. For the right prepper, homesteader, or esoteric architecture enthusiast, the infrastructure is legitimately solid — solar, generator, well, and septic all in place. Reddit's one lingering concern, beyond the windows, is code compliance — the construction reads as creative, ambitious, and not obviously permitted. The listing says this is a rare find. Reddit agrees, with caveats.
