Nobody Touches the Bar: A Fox Point MCM Time Capsule

Custom designed by renowned Milwaukee architects Lillian and Willis Leenhouts and maintained by the original owners since it was built, this five-bedroom mid-century modern in Fox Point, Wisconsin is hitting the market with its rad bar rug, purple bathroom, green crisscross wallpaper, and rumpus room entirely intact. Reddit's position is clear: the bar stays. The purple bathroom is nowhere near as offensive as expected. And that house has seen things, baby.

A Leenhouts Original, Lovingly Preserved

Lillian and Willis Leenhouts were among Milwaukee's most celebrated mid-century architects, and this Fox Point home is a textbook expression of their work — open concept layout, clean lines, generous wood detailing, and walls of glass overlooking a three-quarter-acre flat lot that integrates outdoor and indoor living seamlessly. The 3,628-square-foot home features five bedrooms, four baths, a primary suite with cathedral ceiling, private bath, triple-door closet, and custom walk-in, plus multiple gathering spaces throughout. Large windows pull natural light deep into every room, and the rear of the home opens completely to the expansive lot. The bones here are exceptional. The original era details are all present. Some photos, per the listing, have been digitally enhanced — which, given the wallpaper, may be doing some heavy lifting in certain rooms.

The Bar, the Bathroom, and the Rumpus Room

The retro-style rec room with wet bar is, by Reddit consensus, a rumpus room in the truest and most honored sense of the word — and the bar rug is non-negotiable. The thread's originator has staked a clear position: the rad bar rug stays, and you can't stop them. The purple bathroom, braced for by the community before viewing, turned out to be considerably more livable than anticipated. The green crisscross trellis wallpaper, however, has divided the room — one commenter wants it gone immediately, another has offered to take it off their hands. The house has, as one commenter observed with evident certainty, seen things. At $795,000 in Fox Point on three-quarters of an acre with Leenhouts provenance, it is also an exceptional piece of Wisconsin architectural history — bar rug and all.
