A Potomac Estate Stuck in the 1990s Lists at $6.6M — and the Loft Space Raises Questions

The Reddit poster described a large Potomac River estate with interesting loft space and noted uncertainty about the communal sleeping area with rose petals. One commenter said it would always be cool to them. Another asked: "$7M estate on the Potomac? What do you think I am — an elected official?" The property is listed at $6,599,000, down from an earlier ask of $16,600,000. The rose petals remain unexplained.

The Estate

The 11,097-square-foot residence sits on 10.57 acres with 700 feet of Potomac River waterfront — the largest in Prince George's County — with views of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and across to Alexandria, Virginia. The listing describes a two-story atrium foyer with marble floors and a sweeping double-curved staircase, two formal dining rooms, a game room, a large kitchen with island, an indoor pool visible from the main level, five upper-level bedrooms, a primary suite with a private terrace and Potomac views, a fully functional attic with a bedroom and flex space, a basement apartment with two bedrooms and a full kitchen, a theater room, and a five-car garage. This is an enormous amount of house. The interiors, per the Reddit poster, need updating — a diplomatic description of a property that the listing describes as "timeless elegance" but which several commenters identified as consistent with the design vocabulary of the Clinton administration. The loft space in question — a communal sleeping area decorated with rose petals — is featured in the listing photos and is not addressed in the listing description.

The Price — and the Rose Petals

The property appears to have previously listed as high as $16,600,000, making the current $6,599,000 ask a reduction of approximately $10 million — which is the kind of price cut that raises its own questions about where value and aspiration diverge on a large waterfront estate in Prince George's County. At $6.6 million for 11,097 square feet and 700 feet of Potomac frontage, the price-per-square-foot is $595 — competitive for the location and the footprint, less so for the interiors as currently presented. The elected official joke in the Reddit thread was not specifically directed at any elected official in particular, though the property's location across from the DC metro area lends it a certain contextual resonance. As for the communal sleeping loft with rose petals: the listing does not explain it. The photos exist. Viewers are invited to reach their own conclusions.
