A brick industrial building on Broadway Boulevard in Flint, Michigan, in the city's industrial corridor near Downtown Flint.

A Former General Motors Building in Flint Is Listed as a Single-Family Home. The Luxury Bathroom Is Real.

Reddit asked: "Creepy commercial building but luxury bathroom and shower listed as home — would you live here?" The top comment was: "Hell yeah I'd live there, it'd be a lot less creepy with proper lighting." The property in question is a 1909 five-story, 22,500-square-foot former General Motors facility on Broadway Boulevard in Flint, Michigan, listed as a single-family home at $475,000. It has a certified freight elevator. It also has a genuinely excellent bathroom.

The Building

Built in 1909 with heavy-duty concrete construction, wide-span interiors, 9-foot-plus ceilings, and a full fire suppression system, the building at 1273 Broadway Boulevard was a General Motors facility before Zillow classified it as a single-family residence. The main level and half the second floor have been renovated. Floors three through five each offer 4,500 square feet of wide-open, redevelopment-ready space. The certified freight elevator services all floors including the basement. The property includes multiple adjacent parcels, giving the buyer nearly a full city block of land. The listing describes potential uses including light manufacturing, cannabis operations, storage, and creative workspaces — which is an unusual list of alternatives for a home with five bedrooms and a luxury bathroom, but here we are. The zoning is GI-1 Green Innovation. Central air and natural gas forced air are in place. The seller will consider land contract terms.

The Bathroom — and the Question

The listing photos include a bathroom that is, by any reasonable measure, significantly nicer than the building's exterior or its freight elevator would suggest — a luxury shower installation that reads as a genuine renovation effort in an otherwise industrial context. This is either the most optimistic bathroom in Flint's industrial corridor or an early sign of what the right buyer with the right vision could do with 22,500 square feet of 1909 concrete and wide-span interiors. Reddit's optimistic commenter voted for proper lighting as the primary remediation. They may be right. At $475,000 for nearly a full city block of a former GM facility with a renovated residential footprint and direct access to I-475 and I-69, the price is either a bargain or a project, and possibly both. The listing describes it as "powerful potential at an attractive price point." The seller is motivated. Would you live here?
