Grammy-winning county trio, The Dixie Chicks, are officially changing their name.
Yesterday, the group, comprised of Natalie Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire, dropped a note on their website saying “We want to meet this moment.” The band will now go by a shortened name, simply, "The Chicks," as the word 'Dixie' pertains to the confederate south.
All of the band's social media channels were changed and with the name change came a new song titled, "March March."
They're not the only country artist to make a change like this. Two weeks prior, trio Lady Antebellum announced they would now be going simply by Lady A.
The Chicks also dropped a music video for their new song “March March,” which features people through history marching for civil rights. The first thing shown in the video is a quote that says, “If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you.”
