Transform Any Room with a DIY Faux Brick Wall
Add rustic charm and texture without the mess of real masonry

Brick walls add character and warmth to any space, but installing real brick is costly, messy, and permanent. Faux brick panels or wallpaper offer the same rustic charm without the commitment or construction headaches. This simple weekend project can transform a bland wall into a striking focal point that guests will swear is authentic masonry.
Materials
Faux brick panels or wallpaper
Construction adhesive or wallpaper paste
Finishing nails (for panels)
Utility knife and straight edge
Paintbrushes and rollers
White or colored paint (optional)
Method
- Prepare the wall by cleaning thoroughly and filling any holes or imperfections.
- Measure and cut your panels or wallpaper to fit the wall dimensions, allowing for outlets and switches.
- Apply adhesive to the back of panels or follow wallpaper paste instructions, then press firmly onto the wall.
- Secure panels with finishing nails along the edges and seams for extra stability (skip for wallpaper).
- Paint or whitewash for a customized look. Apply paint with a brush or roller, then partially wipe off for a weathered effect.
For the most realistic faux brick wall, focus on creating depth with color. After installation, use a sponge to dab darker shades into the mortar lines and lighter highlights on brick faces. This shadow play tricks the eye into seeing real texture, even on flat wallpaper. For an industrial loft look, whitewash your brick wall but let some of the red tones peek through.
