This $699,900 Downtown Lancaster Condo Has Something the Listing Doesn't Quite Mention
The listing for this top-floor condo at 336 N. Christian Street in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania describes heart-pine floors, Viking appliances, a granite island, exposed beams, and stunning city views. The photos reveal that the exposed beams are large, diagonal, structural, and pass directly through the middle of the living room at angles that suggest the building has opinions about where you should and should not stand. Reddit noticed. The post title was simply: "There's something about this condo listing that really sticks out."
The Beams
The listing mentions "exposed beams" exactly once, in a sentence describing how high ceilings, expansive windows, heart-pine floors, and said beams "thoughtfully blend the space." The photos tell a more complete story. Several large, dark-stained diagonal timbers rise from the floor at dramatic angles, crossing the open living area and connecting somewhere near the ceiling in a pattern that is structurally necessary and visually arresting in roughly equal measure. They are, to be fair, beautiful. They are also very much there, in the room, at all times, in ways that will meaningfully shape furniture arrangement, traffic flow, and the experience of hosting a dinner party. The listing does not address this further. The building's original architecture — this appears to be a converted historic structure — required them, and whoever designed the conversion made the right call to leave them exposed. It does not make them less present.
Everything Else
Beyond the beams, the 2,102-square-foot top-floor condo is genuinely impressive. Two bedrooms, each fully ensuite — one with a soaking tub, one with a tile walk-in shower. A chef's kitchen with a massive granite island, Shaker cabinets, and Viking appliances. Custom built-in office spaces flanking the kitchen on both sides. A gas fireplace in the main sitting area overlooking the city. Heart-pine floors throughout. Two dedicated parking spaces — one underground, one exterior. An elevator that opens directly into the unit. A storage locker in the basement. Steps from Central Market, the Fulton Theater, and the best of downtown Lancaster. Listed at $699,900, it is priced for the neighborhood and the finish level — and the right buyer, one who has made peace with the beams and perhaps even grown to love them, will find a remarkable city home waiting for them.
