Reflective Style: How to Design a Stunning Mirror Gallery Wall

Create depth, light, and the illusion of space with an artful mirror arrangement

Elegant entryway with a curated arrangement of mirrors in various shapes and sizes reflecting light
Here's Looking at you

A mirror gallery wall is the designer's secret weapon for making small spaces feel larger, dark rooms brighter, and any space more dynamic. By strategically arranging mirrors of varying shapes and sizes, you can bounce light around the room, create visual interest, and make a style statement that's both functional and beautiful.

What You'll Need

Assorted mirrors (5-15 depending on wall size)
Measuring tape
Level
Pencil
Kraft paper or newspaper
Painter's tape
Hammer
Picture hanging hardware
Wall anchors for heavier mirrors

How To Create It

  1. Collect your mirrors - Source mirrors in varying shapes, sizes, and frames. Look for interesting vintage pieces, affordable new options, or DIY frames around plain mirrors.
  2. Plan your layout - Arrange mirrors on the floor first. Try grouping odd numbers, mixing shapes, and varying the spacing between pieces.
  3. Create templates - Trace each mirror onto kraft paper or newspaper and cut out the shapes. Mark where the hanging hardware is located.
  4. Test on the wall - Use painter's tape to position your paper templates on the wall. Step back frequently to assess the arrangement.
  5. Consider reflections - Check what each mirror will reflect when hung. Ideally, mirrors should reflect light sources, greenery, or attractive views.
  6. Mark hardware positions - Once your arrangement is finalized, mark the wall through the hanging hardware indicators on your templates.
  7. Install anchors if needed - For heavier mirrors, install appropriate wall anchors at your marked positions.
  8. Hang systematically - Remove templates one by one, installing each mirror before moving to the next. Use your level to ensure each piece is straight.
DESIGNER TIP

For maximum impact, position your mirror gallery wall across from a window to multiply natural light, or opposite your most attractive room feature to create multiple viewing angles. In smaller spaces, choose mirrors with thinner frames to maintain a light, airy feel. For added dimension, incorporate a few small floating shelves among your mirrors to display small plants or objects—the mirrors will reflect these items, creating even more visual interest.
