DIY PROJECTS

Custom candle holders add warmth, personality, and a touch of handcrafted charm to any room. From rustic wood designs to elegant glass creations, DIY candle holders allow you to match your exact aesthetic while creating conversation pieces that transform ordinary candles into striking decor elements. With just a few basic materials and simple techniques, you can craft beautiful, one-of-a-kind holders for any style of home.

Materials & Options

• Wood-Based: Wood slices, reclaimed lumber, driftwood
• Glass Options: Mason jars, wine bottles, glass vases
• Concrete Materials: Quick-setting concrete, molds
• Metal Elements: Copper pipe, wire, tin cans
• Natural Materials: Stones, shells, pine cones
• Tools: Drill with spade bit, sandpaper, scissors
• Decorative Items: Paint, glitter, twine, ribbon
• Adhesives: Hot glue, wood glue, epoxy

Three Easy Projects

  1. Wood Log Tea Light Holders
    • Select a dry wood log approximately 4" in diameter.
    • Mark positions for tea light cavities along the top.
    • Use a 1.5" spade bit to drill holes 0.5" deep.
    • Sand the entire log and cavities until smooth.
    • Apply wood sealant to protect your finished holder.
  2. Frosted Mason Jar Luminaries
    • Clean glass jars and remove labels completely.
    • Apply painter's tape to create patterns if desired.
    • Spray with frosted glass spray paint in a ventilated area.
    • Remove tape once dry and add decorative wire or twine handles.
    • Place tea lights or votives inside for a soft glow.
  3. Modern Concrete Votives
    • Create molds using plastic cups, inserting smaller cups in center.
    • Mix quick-setting concrete according to package instructions.
    • Pour concrete between cups and let cure completely.
    • Remove from molds and sand any rough edges.
    • Paint or leave natural for industrial chic style.
DESIGNER TIP

Create a dynamic candle display by grouping multiple handmade holders of varying heights and materials. For example, pair tall wooden candlesticks with shorter concrete votives and glass hurricanes. This technique draws the eye through different levels, creating visual interest and a curated look. For safety, always place candle holders on heat-resistant surfaces and never leave burning candles unattended, especially around flammable materials like fabric or paper decorations.
